| ABOUT THE POSITION The Corrections Services program is responsible for ensuring that the City meets its legal mandate to provide for the incarceration of misdemeanor offenders. The City operates a 28-bed, short-term municipal jail and contracts with other providers for longer-term service. The Department currently contracts with Benton County to house inmates who are sentenced to more than thirty days in custody. The Corrections Services group works closely with the Olympia Municipal Court and Olympia Probation Department to assure that alternatives to incarceration are appropriately used. The Corrections Officers are members of Teamsters Local 252. The Jail Manager is an exempt position. IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE The ideal candidate profile includes: • Working knowledge of correctional standards (Washington state and national standards, such as ACA standards), civil liability law and jail liability. Also, knowledge of the municipal court system, mental healthcare system, and of the intake and release process. • Ability to develop and implement plans and programs based on research, analysis, data evaluation, facilitating stakeholder input, and guiding the work of others. • Strong interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, and ability to work effectively on a management team. POSITION DESCRIPTION Typical responsibilities include the following: • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the City jail in a manner that optimizes the use of financial, physical, and human resources in accomplishing assigned functions. • Assure the security and welfare of jail inmates. • Coordinate with outside agencies, attorneys and other individuals, and provide information to other law enforcement agencies, the courts, and other jail personnel. • Develop and interpret policy, guidelines, regulations, and technical documents. • Communicate verbally and in writing, prepare reports and documents, and make presentations. • Develop program goals, objectives, strategies, and performance measures. • Serve as a member of the Command Staff on a rotational basis with other Police staff. At least two years of supervisory experience is required. Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation, polygraph examination, and possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s License are required. | Job Opening: Evidence/Property Technician Closes: Open Until Filled Summary: This job description is taken from the Montpelier, Idaho, Police Department. Maintain and process evidence seized from crime scenes, to include obtaining and securing evidence, processing evidence for fingerprints, ensuring availability of evidence for subpoenas, and testifying in court. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training that includes criminal justice work, evidence handling, working with the public, and personal computer operations, or a combination of all the above. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge or experience in the following areas: Detective/ Investigations/ Crime Scene Investigation/ Property Evidence Supervision, military experience. Must be able to effectively communicate with employees and supervisors, outside agencies, and the general public. Must have a positive work history, free from frequent disciplinary actions, suspensions, terminations or resignations, and maintain the highest moral character. Must have the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow oral and written instructions.
